While you reminisce, we invite you to enter our 18th annual photography contest celebrating life in the D.C. metro area through the lens of the photographers who call this region home. We hope this holiday season has treated you well and that your new year kicks off with a solid start!

  • The New York Times’ Year in Pictures commemorates the big news events from January to December along with some everyday bliss.
  • Associated Press (AP) also shared the most memorable photos of the year as captured by AP photographers.

Our 18th annual photo contest opened last week, and we’re excited to see the submissions rolling in already! You have until January 31st to submit your favorite images you’ve taken showing what it’s like to live, work, and love here in our nation’s capitol and the surrounding commuting suburbs.

  • If you have photos of the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood, we also encourage you to submit to the open call for our third show in the MVT Photo Walk.
  • And for the portrait photographers, you won’t want to miss the National Portrait Gallery’s triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition.
  • The jury in Scott Hargis Photo Vs. Pacifica Senior Living awarded the architecture photographer the maximum of $150,000 per image for 43 images that were used without a licensing agreement.
  • Seems like as good a time as any for a refresher on what photographers should know about copyright, from the U.S. Copyright Office itself.
  • National Geographic photographer Keith Ladzinski shares night photography tips.
  • Nice Film Club is having its first photo contest with the theme of winter landscape and a prize of 10 rolls of film.

Submission Site Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Please use a recent version of either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to submit to the contest. You may encounter bugs or errors with other browsers or outdated versions.
  • While there is no limit to the number of photos you can enter into the contest, you will only be able to submit once. Please be sure to review your entire application thoroughly and confirm the price reflects the number of images you are entering before you hit submit.
  • You can save your submission as a draft and return later to complete the submission process.
  • If you realize you need to edit after you have already submitted, you will need to request a refund from Picter support. This will put your submission back into draft status, and you will have to resubmit it once you make the necessary edits.
  • No refunds will be granted after the contest deadline.
