Thank you to everyone who joined us for the second part of our 15th Annual Photography Exhibition. We had a great time seeing this year’s winning images projected on the big screen at Metrobar and spending a lovely fall evening chatting with you. As this year’s show comes to a final close, we are already looking forward to our next. In the meantime, you can still catch this year’s exhibition in our virtual gallery, and the images can be purchased as framed fine art prints here. Exhibition magazines are still available as well and can be purchased online here.

Special thanks again to all our photographers and everyone for sticking with us through a strange year that made it challenging to plan events. We are so grateful for the awesome D.C. photography community that really came together to find creative ways to still celebrate local photography. We love making spaces for you all to get together, and we’re so grateful to everyone who made it possible for Exposed to reach this milestone of 15 years.

Once again, we’d like to thank the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities for their support of the show, along with Focus on the Story, Lost Origins Gallery, Capital Photography Center, and Washington Photo Safari.

If you’d like to be part of next year’s show, keep an eye out for our annual contest that opens in December. If you’d like to get even more involved, consider volunteering with us.

Photos provided by the Exposed DC team: @manylaughlol and @noetodorovich

Thank you so much for joining us Sunday at the opening of the Exposed DC Photography Show. Our team had a wonderful time getting to know many of you as well as catching up with friends and photographers we hadn’t seen in far too long. We truly missed spending time together with the awesome DC photography community in person and appreciate you coming through to help us celebrate 15 years! If you have any feedback you’d like to share, we invite you to complete this brief survey.

The outdoor exhibition will be on view through June 27. Swing by to see the show, which is open and available to all, and be sure to check out all of the amazing small businesses in Mount Pleasant like Ellē located right around the corner.

We’re also keeping our Instagram contest open longer so you still have a chance to participate! The new deadline for entries is June 21. Visit the exhibit and share an image tagging #2021XDC, @exposed_dc, @capitalphotographycenter, and @washingtonphotosafari to participate. Get all the details here.

In addition to the outdoor exhibition, you can view all the winning images now in our first-ever virtual gallery. We hope you enjoy listening to some of the photographers talk about their images in the show; audio clips will auto-play when you view the work.

All the photos in the exhibition can be purchased online here, through the virtual gallery, or by scanning the QR code on any image in the outdoor exhibition. We also have our 15th anniversary exhibition magazine, beautifully designed by Rachael Carter, available for purchase online, and we’ll have some available at the show closing on June 27.

Thank you to Lost Origins Gallery and Focus on the Story for partnering with us on this exhibition and making our idea of an outdoor installation into a reality that surpassed what we could even imagine.

We’d also like to thank the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities for their support. To the Exposed DC team and our amazing volunteers: we couldn’t put this show on year after year without you. And, of course, we have the deepest appreciation for the amazing photographers of the D.C. metro area who so impressively document the many facets of all our lives here time and time again.

2021 Best in Show Winner: Eric Purcell

June 5, 2021 By Ron Keith

We can’t wait to shake off our pandemic ho-hums and celebrate local photography with you at our 15th Annual Photography Show tomorrow! This year we are partnering with Focus on the Story and Lost Origins Gallery to present an outdoor exhibit that will be installed on the exterior wall of Ellē restaurant at 3221 Mt Pleasant St NW. Join us tomorrow from 3-6 p.m. to celebrate the 2021 Exposed DC photography show opening, part of the kickoff for the fourth annual Focus on the Story International Photo Festival.

Today, we are announcing the Best in Show winner “Rose Rosé Bears” by Eric Purcell, selected by judge Kirth Bobb. Williams commented, “I picked this image because DC has seen lots of upheaval and turmoil over the past year or so, and this image reminded me that there’s still fun to be had in DC. I like the humor of the photograph, and I picked it over lots of really amazing protest pictures because if there’s anything we’ve all seen enough of, it is protest pictures. I’ve just never seen teddy bears having brunch before.”

You can view more of Eric’s work on his website.

Kirth is a FujiFilm ambassador, and his photographs have been published in several major publications including The New York Times, Washington Times, and HuffPost, and featured in several galleries across Europe, the Caribbean, and the Americas.

Smith commented, “I love the strong geometry of the image, as well as the way the leading lines and complimentary colors move the viewer through the image.
