Winning Photos of the 14th Annual Exposed DC Contest

December 18, 2019 By Noe Todorovich

We’re excited to announce the winners of the 14th Annual Exposed DC Photography Contest! These images, as seen together, tell the story of Washington, D.C., as documented by the people who live, work, and love here. You can view the full list of winners below.

Mark your calendars for February 19, when we’ll open our 14th annual exhibit! The exhibit will be hosted by Touchstone Gallery again, with support from the Touchstone Foundation for the Arts.

We are also happy to announce that the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities has awarded Exposed DC (Ten Miles Square) a grant to support the 2020 Exposed DC Photography Exhibit!

Join us tonight at 801 Restaurant and Bar from 6-8 p.m. for our monthly happy hour! All are welcome. Our team will be there, so please stop by to say hello. We look forward to meeting our newly minted winners and seeing many familiar faces, too.

Thank you to everyone who submitted to this year’s contest for sharing your work with us. If you recently discovered Exposed DC, welcome! We hope you’ll stick around and become part of our community. Here’s how to get involved, including contributing images for features, coming out to happy hours, and being part of our other activities throughout the year. If you’re interested in getting even more involved, we’d love to chat with you about volunteering with us too!

Now, without further ado, we present to you the winning images of the 14th annual Exposed DC Photography Contest…

Announcing the InstantDC 2014 Open Call Winners

September 10, 2014 By exposeddc

IDC2014winners

A huge thanks to the hundreds of local photographers that submitted their images to our InstantDC Open Call, our first project teamed up with the IDC crew.

We’ve been working hard with judges Keith Lane and E. Brady Robinson to select the top images for the exhibit at the Washington School of Photography, which is graciously hosting a free opening night celebration in their huge gallery space on October 3, and showcasing the exhibition for an entire month! We’re still sorting out the opening night arrangements, so more on that later.

Congratulations to our winners, whose names and winning photographs can be found after the jump. You’ll be notified by email with more instructions soon! The Best in Show selections will be announced closer to the show, so stay tuned for that too.

If you are interested in sponsoring the InstantDC 2014 Show, it’s not too late! Email us at info[at]exposeddc.com for more information.

And now, drumroll please – your InstantDC 2014 Open Call winners:

InstantDC Open Call – Labor Day Deadline Looms

The deadline for our InstantDC 2014 Open Call is nearly upon us. If you haven’t entered the contest yet, you’d better get cracking!

And in case you’re spinning your wheels on which of your images to submit, here’s one more example of an earlier InstantDC show winner to provide a spark, perhaps. Ryan Maxwell‘s crisp, abstract shot dances with geometric shapes and lines, while the unusual perspective adds intrigue, making you wonder which way is up.

Whatever your particular style or subject matter, whatever type of device or medium you use, as long as you’re based in the D.C. area, we want to see your best photographs! So be sure to submit your work before midnight on the night of September 1. Good luck to all!

Have you submitted your best work to our InstantDC 2014 Open Call yet? If you have, good on you! If not, you have less than two weeks left.

Still wondering what to choose from your portfolio? Here’s another selection from an earlier InstantDC show to give you a general feel for the kind of images that might catch the eye of our judges. This beautifully composed photo by Jenny Markely is filled with serenity, joy and innocence. Just dreamy.

Whether your work is as soft and gentle as this, or is cut from a completely different cloth, just be sure to submit your images right here before September 1!

InstantDC Open Call – Counting Down

August 7, 2014 By exposeddc

the conversation by Greg Schmigel

With under four weeks left before the deadline for our InstantDC 2014 Open Call, we thought we’d feature selected images from previous InstantDC contests and shows to give you a feel for what appeals to us. That’s not to say we’re looking for this photograph again, but rather that it’s something you might draw inspiration from.

One winner of a 2011 InstantDC contest, this particular image by Greg Schmigel stands out as a classic documentary photo, telling a story without giving it all away, letting the viewer’s imagination do the rest.

September 1 will be upon us before you know it. When you’re ready, submit your images right here.
