2020 Best in Show Winner: Sofía Sebastián

February 14, 2020 By Andie Capace

We can’t wait to celebrate local photography with you all at our 14th Annual Photography Show opening on Wednesday, February 19 from 6-9 p.m. You can grab your discounted tickets in advance here! As the big day approaches, we are excited to announce the final Best in Show winner for this year’s show. Every year we ask a panel of five distinguished, local judges to each select one image to receive a Best in Show award. The winning photographers each receive a $100 cash prize and are acknowledged in the show and exhibition program.

Today, we are announcing the Best in Show winner “Union Station” by Sofía Sebastián, selected by judge Angela Bain. Bain commented, “This image has it all: mood, compelling composition, play of shadows, light and dark, juxtaposition of hard straight lines with gentle curved ones, all while telling a story of DC and some of the interesting people who live and work here at the busiest transportation hub in our dynamic city.”

You can view more of Sebastián’s work on her website and on Instagram.

Angela Bain is a life-long local of the D.C. metro area who has been photographing people since 1995. A famous photo by Man Ray hanging in her high school photography class was the gateway drug into a love affair with this art form. She studied fine art photography at Towson University, and has worked in the areas of portrait, studio, fine art, commercial, editorial and wedding photography.

2020 Best in Show Winner: Danielle Press

February 12, 2020 By Andie Capace

Our 14th Annual Photography Show opens a week from today on Wednesday, February 19 from 6-9 p.m. You can grab your discounted tickets for opening night in advance here! As we lead up to the show, we are announcing this year’s Best in Show winners. A panel of five distinguished, local judges carefully review all photos, each selecting one image to receive a Best in Show award. The winning photographers each receive a $100 cash prize and are recognized in the exhibit and program.

The next Best in Show winner we are announcing today is “Gold with Kayak” by Danielle Press, selected by judge Beverly Price. Price commented that she loved this photo “because it makes me feel like I’m on the Nile River of the DMV.” This photo is a great capture of what we can epitomize “golden hour” to be.

You can view more of Press’ work on her website, on Instagram, and on Twitter.

2020 Best in Show Winner: Ather Ahsan

February 11, 2020 By Andie Capace

We are looking forward to our 14th Annual Photography Show, opening on February 19th from 6-9 p.m. As we lead up to the show, we will be announcing this year’s Best in Show winners. A panel of five distinguished, local judges carefully review all photos, and each selects one image to receive a Best in Show award. The winning photographers each receive a $100 cash prize and are recognized in the exhibit and program.

Today we are announcing the second Best in Show winner: “Blast Off” by Ather Ahsan, selected by judge Shedrick Pelt. Pelt expressed that this image “literally hit home” for him. “The Saturn V rocket that is projected on the side of the Washington Monument currently resides in my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama.” The monument is shown in contrast to the vast, brightly lit night sky, further symbolizing the wonders of space travel.

You can view more of Ather Ahsan’s work on Instagram.

Shedrick Pelt is a D.C. based editorial, live-event, and commercial photographer. His style is driven by an urge to be the fly on the wall, capturing an experience without disrupting the nature of the moment. More about Shedrick and his work can be found at www.sdotpdotmedia.com.
