June 4, 2021 By Ron Keith

We can’t wait to shake off our pandemic ho-hums and celebrate local photography with you at our 15th Annual Photography Show. We are excited to announce the Best in Show winners for this year’s show in the days leading up to the opening on Sunday! Today, we are announcing the selection of “Each Substance of Grief Has Twenty Shadows” by Arpita Upadhyaya, selected by judge Adriana Mendoza. Mendoza commented, “First, the title captures what sparks so much emotion from me. The shadows, the angle, and the black and white version of this capture bring forth the power, the grief, the anger that was felt that day.”

Today, we are announcing the selection of Dylan Bilbao’s “Polychromatic” by judge Jamie Davis Smith. Smith commented, “I love the strong geometry of the image, as well as the way the leading lines and complimentary colors move the viewer through the image. It’s both dynamic and soothing.  The shadows and reflections give hints about what is happening inside and out, adding so much depth and interest!”

2021 Best in Show Winner: Jenny Markley

June 2, 2021 By Ron Keith

This year we are partnering with Focus on the Story and Lost Origins Gallery to present our 15th Annual Photography Show in an outdoor exhibit along the exterior wall of Ellē restaurant at 3221 Mt Pleasant St NW. Join us on Sunday, June 6 at 3 p.m. to celebrate the show opening as part of the kickoff for the fourth annual Focus on the Story International Photo Festival! As the big day nears, we are excited to share this year’s Best in Show winners, selected by independent, distinguished judges.

Today, we are announcing the Best in Show winner “Reflection” by Jenny Markley, selected by judge Deveney Williams. Williams commented, “This image’s composition, color contrast, and symbolism make it my top pick. The two women absorbing everything going on around them in the summer of protests in the reflecting pool gives us pause to the story we’re still fighting, systemic change.”

You can view more of Jenny’s work on her website and Instagram.
