For better or for worse, the World Cup is everywhere you look at the moment. This was especially true on Thursday as the USA faced Germany in a bid to advance to the next stage. Victoria Pickering figured she’d have some great photo opportunities if she visited Dupont Circle, where fans gathered to watch the match on a giant screen. She was right.

At first glance, this is just a nicely framed shot with interesting geometry of lines and textures. But when you take a closer look, you start to notice the interesting positions and behaviors of the people under the watchful gaze of their pigeon overlord. Well done brunofish.
