We’re excited to announce the winners of the 17th Annual Exposed DC Photography Contest! These images, as seen together, tell the story of Washington, D.C., as documented by the people who live, work, and love here. You can view the full list of winners below.

Thank you to everyone who entered this year’s contest for sharing your work with us and congratulations to this year’s winners. We always enjoy seeing this city through your eyes, and we’re proud to have the opportunity to share the work of local photographers of all levels whose images help tell and celebrate the story of life in and around this city of ours. Stay tuned for updates about the 2023 Exposed DC Photography Show and join us for a celebratory happy hour on Wednesday, March 1 from 6-8 p.m. at 801 Restaurant & Bar.

The deadline for our annual photo contest is fast approaching! You have until the end of the month to submit your best images of the D.C. metro area for the chance to be part of our 17th annual exhibition. If you’d like to learn more about the show and the types of images that are selected, be sure to watch our feature in the October 2022 WETA Arts episode.   • Speaking of previous winners, Exposed alum Sue Dorfman has been capturing voting stories from across the nation for nearly three decades.
  • The DC Street Photography Collective’s (DCSPC’s) “Hiding in Plain Sight” exhibition opens tonight at Project Create Arts Center, 6:00 p.m. Local photographers can also take part in their open call through February 4 with selected images to be exhibited at the show closing.
  • As part of the opening, DCSPC member (and Exposed alum!) Chris Suspect will be selling around 100 8×10 signed prints.
  • Three artists are suing Midjourney, Stability AI, and DeviantArt for their use of Stable Diffusion, an AI art-generating tool.
  • Getty Images is also suing Stability AI over alleged copyright violation.
  • The Falcon Heavy rocket launch last weekend happened in twilight, providing rare evening light that allowed for new insights into the liftoff and return of the rocket.
  • Artist Holly Nelson discovered noted photographer Louis Fleckenstein while researching family genealogy.
  • Chris Hytha takes viewers to the top of historic skyscrapers with his drone photography.

Enter the 17th Annual Exposed DC Photography Contest

Our 2023 photography contest is open for entries! Submit your best images of the Washington, D.C. metro area by January 31 for the chance to be part of our 17th annual photography exhibition. We want to see what life in our nation’s capital is like for you. What scenes catch your eye? What events do you look forward to attending or just feel compelled to document? Watch our recent feature on WETA Arts to learn more about the show and what we look for to display in the exhibit. 

Winners of the contest will be featured in the 2023 Exposed DC Photography Show to be held in Spring or Summer 2023. Exposed DC takes public health concerns and accessibility into consideration when selecting the exhibit location. You can check out this page to view opening wrap-up posts and previous winners announcements to get a better sense of the show. We plan to kick off the celebration by announcing more details in early April. A virtual gallery featuring the show images will also be available during the exhibit run.

The entry cost is $10 per image, and you may submit as many images as you’d like. More details are available on our submission site. Entries are accepted now through January 31 at 11:59 p.m. Please see below for some important notes about the submission site to optimize your contest experience.

Some notes about the submission site 

  • Please use a recent version of either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to submit to the contest. You may encounter bugs or errors with other browsers or outdated versions.
  • While there is no limit to the number of photos you can enter into the contest, you will only be able to submit once. Please be sure to review your entire application thoroughly and confirm the price reflects the number of images you are entering before you hit submit. 
  • You can save your submission as a draft and return later to complete the submission process.
  • If you realize you need to edit after you have already submitted, you will need to request a refund from Picter support. This will put your submission back into draft status, and you will have to resubmit it once you make the necessary edits.
  • No refunds will be granted after the contest deadline.
