We’ll be announcing the Best in Show winners next week in the days leading up to our annual show opening! Find out more about the judges now and check back on Monday when we start announcing their personal favorites from the show. Then join us at the opening on Sunday, June 4 to celebrate 17 years of local photography and peruse the winning images together at Lost Origins Outside!   • The California wildflower superbloom draws thousands of visitors every spring along with concerns about the impact that tourism has on wild spaces.
  • The annual TIPA World Awards acknowledge excellence in photography products, with the 2023 winners announced earlier this week.
  • Members of the British Press Photographers’ Association are showcasing their best work in an exhibition curated by five leading industry figures.
  • Acacia Johnson documents the pilots keeping remote communities connected in Alaska where there are more pilots per capita than anywhere else in the U.S.
  • Photos of Jim Brown recall his life, from Hall of Fame NFL player to actor and social activist, as he is remembered after passing away earlier this month.

Just over two weeks to go until our 17th annual Exposed DC Photography Show opens. We can’t wait to see all the beautiful photos together in the outdoor exhibition and to celebrate local photography with you! Join us for the opening reception where you’ll have the chance to meet featured artists, chat with fellow photographers, and win some prizes.

  • Apply by May 22 to be considered for Critical Exposure’s Development Director job opening.
  • The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Lynn Goldsmith who claimed the late Andy Warhol had violated her copyright on a photograph of the singer Prince.
  • Reserve a spot for Leica Conversations with Bret Curry on May 31 at 4:00 p.m. to hear about his explorations in still and moving imagery and his cinematic approach to visual storytelling.
  • Photoworks Gallery is currently displaying work from the winners of last year’s Photo Slam through June 25. A little bird tells us the show will be extended into early July.
  • Joe McNally is taking students to the largest island in Estonia for a week-long masterclass July 8-14. The cost for the program is €4,920, not including travel or accommodations.
  • A Chinese photographer documented his family’s immigration journey to America in a project he calls, “Fresh off the Boat.”
  • Jon Enoch was awarded the title of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2023 for his portrait of a street vendor selling candy floss.

Preparations for our 17th annual Exposed DC Photography Show are in full swing, and we are getting more excited by the day to celebrate local photography with you all next month! Feel free to share our Facebook event with friends and fellow photography fans, and we will see you at Lost Origins Outside on Sunday, June 4 for the opening celebration.

  • The 2023 Pulitzer Prize winners and finalists were announced earlier this week.
  • Legendary war photographer James Nachtwey appeared on 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper to reflect on his career.
  • Nikon released the full-frame Nikon Z 8 mirrorless camera.
  • Joseph Ford collaborates with artists to reimagine the possibilities of public spaces in his “Impossible Street Art” project.
  • Moroccan-Belgian photographer, Mous Lamrabat, photographed and interviewed diasporic communities from over 25 cultures over four months.
  • Looking for a little field trip? PortraitMeetDC is heading to Annapolis on Saturday, May 20 from 3-6 p.m.
  • Last call for the Women Photograph Project Grants cycle; applications are due on Monday.
  • For more than 40 years, Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky has recorded the impact of humans on the Earth in large-scale images that often resemble abstract paintings.

The 17th annual Exposed DC Photography Show opening is just about a month away. Get all the details in our press release and mark your calendars now for Sunday, June 4! We’ll be announcing exciting updates as the date gets closer.

  • People and the Planet, an international open call that invites artists to think about our world and the humanity within it, is accepting applications through June 4 with an entry fee of $35.
  • A new radio drama about an aspiring photographer aims to help educate the community and new photographers.
  • Survive, Glamorously: Images of Drag in the District is on view at Ron David Studio through May 13 with an artist talk on Tuesday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. Metro Weekly spoke to co-curators haus of bambi and Farrah Skeiky about the show.
  • A comprehensive study of the photography drones market aims to provide an overview including industry development, market summary, and value chain analysis.
  • The DC Street Photography Collective and Chris Suspect present King Koala at Slash Run on May 18 for a NSFW photo slam, presentation, and more. Entries for the photo slam are accepted through May 11. Event is 18+ and tickets are $15 with limited seating.
  • Community Love and PortraitMeetDC are having a day of networking with content creators tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Harbor.
  • Reports suggest the upcoming iPhone 15 will get a major camera upgrade compliments of Sony’s newest image sensors.
  • Wildlife photographers from around the world come together for 100 For The Ocean, a month-long fundraiser for ocean conservation.
  • The deadline for the Women Photograph Project Grants is coming up soon. Women, nonbinary, transgender, and intersex documentary photographers of any nationality are invited to submit an application by May 15 for consideration.
