  • RE/ENVISIONING, a new exhibition at the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) gallery, opens next week with a reception on July 6 from 6-8 p.m.
  • CAH is also seeking applications from District-based artists for the FY24 Juried Exhibition Grant that will reflect on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and how DC artists have been influenced by the social progress and reform of the past 60 years.

  • StreetMeetDC is hosting a special event with Yours Truly Hotel this Sunday at 12:30 p.m., free but RSVP required as space is limited.
  • Gear Patrol announced the acquisition of DPReview thereby keeping it alive after Amazon announced it would be shutting down the site earlier this year. Long live, DPReview!
  • Maria Emelianova has been photographing chess competitions for over 10 years.
  • Studio Gallery is hosting an opening reception for Beverly Logan’s “What We See” exhibit tomorrow from 3-5 p.m.
  • A pair of preening pigeons won the grand prize in the National Audubon Society’s 2023 photo contest.
  • Thousands of revelers celebrated the summer solstice at Stonehenge.
  • The building at 1313 F Street was once home to Harris & Ewing Photographic Studio, the largest news photo service in the U.S. at the time.

  • A new composite released by the Bruce Murray Laboratory for Planetary Visualization details 99.5 percent of Mars’ surface in unprecedented detail.
  • WPOW’s 17th Annual Photography & Multimedia Exhibition is now open for submissions for WPOW members.
  • IA&A at Hillyer will be releasing its annual call for proposals soon, and Hillyer Director Tim Brown will be holding a Zoom session going over how to prepare for the call on June 26.

  • A dynamic retrospective of Frank Stewart’s photography opens tomorrow at The Phillips Collection with various affiliated events throughout the summer.
  • The 2023 edition of the Abbey Road Studios Music Photography Awards is open for entries through July 18.
  • A new grant from Vital Impacts funds long-term efforts to document environmental solutions in the photographers’ own communities.
  • Join PortraitMeetDC at Crystal City Garden on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. for their next meet in collaboration with National Landing.
  • Sony announced a new CFexpress Type A card with 1920GB of storage and a jaw-dropping price of $1,400.
  • In a newly launched Women in Photography podcast, SheClicks founder Angela Nicholson speaks with women in the industry about their experiences, what drives them, and how they got to where they are now.
  • The Sony World Photography Awards is now accepting entries for the 2024 competition.
  • Apple revealed its long-awaited augmented reality goggles this week, putting great emphasis on their photographic functionality.
