Our 18th annual photo contest opens one week from today! We can’t wait to see the last year or so in D.C. through your eyes. Start reviewing your images now and submit your best before the contest closes at the end of January.

We’ll be taking next week off for Thanksgiving, so we’ll go ahead and express our appreciation to you now for being part of this amazing community! The holidays nearing also means our annual contest is just around the corner. We’ll be launching the 2024 Exposed DC Photography Contest on December 8. Stay tuned for updates and get those photos ready!

  • Glen Echo Photoworks is hosting a “Monochrome Mimosas” event with the Handmade Photo Group tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. that will show the processes behind the prints in the “Timeless 2023 Exhibit.” Tickets are $30 or $60 for VIP with a photo book and extra raffle tickets.
  • The 2023 Nature Conservancy photo contest winners have been announced.
  • Umbrella Art Fair 2023 will feature works by over 150 artists over the weekend with three days of art, culture, and convening.
  • Scottish photographer David Gilliver won the People’s Choice award in the macro category at the British Photography Awards.
  • The controversial AI-generated image that was in the headlines earlier this year goes on sale at Paris Photo for €20,000.
  • Tracy Camilla Johns, the lead actress in Spike Lee’s breakthrough film, presents her photography exhibit at the Laurel Museum through Thanksgiving.
  • News about Black Friday camera deals are already circulating.

  • A new exhibit at the National Gallery of Art features 100 photographs by the prolific American photographer Dorothea Lange.
  • PortraitMeetDC is partnering with Goodwill for an event on November 18, free but registration is required.
  • The director of the Hungarian National Museum has been fired over LGBTQ+ content in the prestigious World Press Photo exhibition on display at the museum.
  • Join the DC Film Collective and Capitol Hill Arts Workshop Darkroom Sunday at 12 p.m. for show and tell at Doubles Coffee / Sonny’s Pizza.
  • WPOW’s 17th Annual Photography and Multimedia Exhibition will open to members and the public tomorrow from 2-5 p.m. at Lost Origins Outside in the alley next to Ellē. If that spot sounds familiar, it’s where we had our annul show too!
  • Reuben Radding is offering a six-week class on street photography that will meet online four Wednesdays in January 2024 and two Wednesdays in February, from 12-3 p.m. EST each session. Total cost is $800 and space is limited to six participants.
  • The Dog Photography Awards announced the winners of the 2023 contest. ????

  • Five photography educators will take part in Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions’ webinar and awards ceremony on Sunday. A pass for all five presentations is $50 or $30 for members of the photography clubs that organize MAPV annually.
  • TIME and the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) joined forces to establish a new global photographic portraiture competition. Entries are due by November 7, and the fees are $15 for single image and $55 for a series.
  • For 20 years, Seymour Licht has spent Halloween exploring New York’s Subway to capture outlandish costumes amidst everyday scenes of trains and stations.
  • Check out Microcosm-Macrocosm, a group photography exhibition, in the lower gallery at Studio Gallery through November 18.
  • Jesús Madriñán is the third guest of DC.es, a project where five Spanish photographers from the Spanish Academy in Rome share their gazes of Washington through their lenses. The exhibit will be up through November 24 at SPAIN arts & culture.
  • The DC Film Collective and Capitol Hill Arts Workshop Darkroom are hosting a show and tell at Doubles Coffee / Sonny’s Pizza at 12 p.m. on November 12.
  • The Kills’ new album, God Games, includes a pair of photographs that accompany each set of song lyrics selected by the band members to illustrate each track.
  • Submit your best music photography to the DC Street Photography Collective by midnight tonight to be part of their event at Slash Run next week featuring the work of Jim Saah and Matt Cabani. Tickets for the event are $20 and available now.
