What a wonderful way to spend our 10th birthday! Our team had a great time meeting so many of you at the Exposed DC Photography Show last night, and we hope you all enjoyed yourselves immensely. We want to thank the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. for being such wonderful hosts and allowing us to throw our exhibit in such a special building at the Carnegie Library. Remember you can see the exhibit tonight until 8pm, and this Saturday from 10am-4pm. Then the exhibit will be open Monday-Thursday, 10am-4pm, and Fridays, 10am-8pm, through Friday, March 25.

Thank you to Bluejacket Brewery for providing the wonderful craft beers at our bar, as they have for the last few years. Our photography partners had great stuff for everyone last night: APA|DC showed off how you do a live commercial photoshoot with some DC Rollergirls, from the make-up to the editing; Capital Photography Center told us what makes a great photo during Critiques in a Flash; IGDC and HOIST Studio did a really fun photo booth (you can see all the images at @IGDCatExpDC on Instagram); The Exposure Group African American Photographers Association exhibited some of their members work; Critical Exposure had a display of the advocacy images taken by their youth photographers; and Leica DC had some of their impressive cameras on hand. DJ Neville C provided some great tuns in the Library’s impressive L’Enfant Map Room, and Basecamp provided excellent printing services as always. We also want to thank the dozens of volunteers who helped us pull off such a big event. Lastly, thanks to all the photographers who keep sharing their phenomenal work with us. We look forward to another 10 years of enjoying it and putting it on display for even more people to enjoy.

We wrap up our fantastic list of partners with our biggest one: The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. Their organization is dedicated to preserving the stories of our city, making them the the natural ones to turn to when we were looking for a place to host our 10th anniversary Exposed DC Photography Show. What could be a better venue for an exhibit of images that tell the tales of modern life in the District? We’re so pleased to be working with them and holding our opening reception throughout the historic Carnegie Library with our other partners. Advance tickets for the opening reception are still available!

You’ll be able to view the Exposed DC show in their gallery on the second floor of the Library, and while you’re there, visit their ongoing exhibit Window to Washington, featuring the Kiplinger Washington Collection, in the Small-Alper Family Gallery. The exhibition explores the development of our nation’s capital, from a sleepy southern town into a modern metropolis, as told through the works of artists who witnessed the city’s changes. The exhibit includes some of the collection’s rarest and most iconic artworks and features rotating pieces from other holdings.

Exhibit hours for Exposed DC and Window to Washington:
Monday-Thursday: 10am-4pm
Fridays: 10am-8pm
Saturday, March 12: 10am-4pm
Closing day for Exposed DC: Tuesday, March 29

Our latest partner announcement involves a team of two fantastic, local photography organizations who’ll be joining us to celebrate the 10th annual Exposed DC Photography Show on March 10. IGDC and HOIST have teamed up to run a portrait booth, but with a twist! IGDC photographers Phil Martin, Lukas North and James Jackson will be on hand capturing simultaneous portraits of their subject, with lighting and backdrops for the photo booth provided by HOIST! With this arrangement, you’ll experience how different one photographer’s approach can be from another’s.

IGDC is a photography community that started on Instagram. By organizing instameets and events, the group supports social interaction and creative exploration around the DMV. With daily features on @igdc, photographers have the opportunity for their work to be highlighted for a broader audience. The IGDC community motivates photographers to get out and shoot, encourages the sharing of perspectives and techniques, and provides a welcoming experience for all photographers, no matter the skill level.

HOIST is a boutique studio located in Fairfax, Virginia that supports the work of artists and creative professionals in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. It is primarily used for photographic and videographic production, but it also hosts professional, educational, art, and other related events. HOIST is an everyday workspace for our small family of Residents and is available to everyone else for daily, multi-day, and half-day rentals. And our next partner joining us for the 10th annual Exposed DC Photography Show on March 10 is the Leica Store Washington DC. Located at 977 F Street NW, this is the first Leica Store located in North America. Aside from having their impressive selection of cameras and accessories for sale, the downtown store also has a gallery and event space. Leica staff will be joining us for our opening night with a table of cameras for you to check out, including the Leica M rangefinder and Leica SL.
