The shadows make this image by Kate Warren—we all know I love a good graphic photograph. Sometimes shooting when the sun is directly over your subject is a great thing.

This is my sentiment exactly, Holly Garner. Holly shares a photo taken by her friend Jarrett Henrdix of her slumped over a brick wall. It’s been hot and a busy summer. I can’t believe it’s already August—I’m glad that it is. Soon, it won’t be so hot and wearing sweaters will be more socially acceptable. Hang in there, Holly—we’ll do it together.
This image by Jordan Barab is the perfect illustration of what it feels like to walk through the thick summer in Washington, D.C. Additionally, I think this a symptom of what I like to call “museum fatigue.”

Jim Darling’s photograph of the East Potomac Pool is a slap in the face reminder that summer is officially over. No more outdoor pool hours, no more long sunny days, and no more running in the sprinkler. We should see Christmas decorations in the stores any day now.

There are several wonderfully absurd things about this photograph. First is the ICEE bear, positioned exactly in the frame to look as if he is really handing that drink to the photographer. The second is the person, almost the same size as the bear, but their top half is taken over by the plant. When you add in the bold colors of the food stand, the plant, the bear sign and the shoes of the person we can’t fully see, this image is a summer winner.
