The scarlet monochromatic image by Kate Warren is an incredibly striking portrait. In the corner, a small patch of green complements the red hue adding an element that briefly takes you away from the warm scene but then propels you back into it.
Photographer Zach Kalman captured a nice moment in this image. This photograph seems completely different than Monday’s In Frame, except that in both images the gestures of the subjects’ hands and the objects they hold are what keep me fixated on the scene. It’s rare these days to see someone smoking inside a public space, which, like Monday’s selection, makes it seem like it’s from a different era.

This is one of easiest In Frames I’ve ever selected. This image by Brooke Linkow is really beautiful–the mustard coat is such a striking color. The way the woman holds her black gloves with her index finger extended keeps my eyes fixated in the yellow coat.
The Potomac River in this icy state is truly majestic. This photo by Dennis Dimick is quiet and calm, which is why I love the aftermath of a snowstorm.
