Thank you so much to everyone who joined us on Sunday for our annual photography show opening celebration! If you’d like to share feedback on your experience, here’s a brief survey. • Congratulations to this year’s Photoworks Photo Slam winners: Shelby Swann, Matt Reaves, and Kristian Whipple, who is also featured in our current annual show!
• Join Tamron Image Master Jonathan Thorpe tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. on location in DC’s southwest waterfront as he demonstrates how to mix strobe and ambient light to create dramatic looking portraits outside of the studio.
• Attend a free virtual artist talk on June 17 at noon with Swedish artist and photographer Helene Schmitz to learn about her artist practice, how her work relates to climate change, and how art might shape and influence society.
• The DC Street Photography Collective returns to live events with two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lucian Perkins on July 8 at Slash Run, $15.
• Last year’s PHmuseum Mobile Photography Prize awardees share the stories behind their images.

The big day is finally here! Join us this Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at Lost Origins Outside in the alley next to Ellē for the opening of our 15th annual Exposed DC Photography Show. View the photos, chat with photographers, and take part in our Instagram contest for a chance to win a gift certificate for Capital Photography Center or Washington Photo Safari. If you can’t join us in person, you also have the option to view the photos in our first-ever virtual gallery.

• DC Royals: A Celebration of Drag opens today at Dupont Underground, 5:00-10:00 p.m. Tickets for the exhibit are $8, and tickets for the drag show are $12.
• Join members of the award-winning DC Street Photography Collective and the DC street photography community this Sunday from 1:30-3:00 p.m. for a photo walk, exploring the neighborhoods of Dupont Circle, Kalorama, Adams Morgan, and finally Mt. Pleasant (where you’ll find us for our show opening).
• Focus on the Story has an impressive lineup of events happening this month. We’ll be highlighting a few each week, but be sure to check the full festival schedule to see everything!
• The International Photography Contest of Mountain Activity, organized by a mountaineering club in Basque country, has announced the winners of this year’s competition.
• Serbian photographer Nikola Olic finds unique angles that turn everyday buildings into abstract art.
• A mother and her autistic son bond through photography.
• Winners of the Nature TTL Photographer of the Year 2021 competition have been announced, with the top prize going to a trippy image of an orangutan.

• Register for Photoworks’ Coffee and Critique this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. to share and discuss your current work with fellow artists.
• Truth in Photography takes on looking for truth in a digital age, democratization of the camera, and citizen journalism with online exhibitions and remarks.
• Foreground launches as a new umbrella entity to serve as a comprehensive, one-stop photography marketplace with backing from ShootProof, Collage, and PSG, a growth equity firm.
• Join the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities for the “Our City, Ourselves: Women Photograph Washington” closing event and community celebration on May 20 at 6:00 p.m. Local photography groups including Exposed DC look forward to being part of the event and discussion!
