Just one week until we open the 2024 Exposed DC Photography Show at Fathom Gallery Georgetown. We can’t wait to celebrate local photography with you all. Get your tickets now, and we’ll see you on Friday, July 12!

  • Do you want your very own wet plate portrait? 2024 exhibiting photographer Mac Cosgrove-Davies will be making them at Fathom Gallery Georgetown on Sunday, July 14 in conjunction with our gallery hours. Each session is 15 minutes long and costs $110 to cover materials; registration recommended as spots are limited.
  • PROGRESSION, a new fine art photography exhibition at Multiple Exposures Gallery through July 28, features a sequence of photographs with each one chosen for its relation to the previous image.
  • This week, the Washington Post introduced thew new Post Local newsletter covering everything happening in the D.C. area. Photos of the region can be shared via this form.
  • PortraitMeetDC will be at Dock 5 tomorrow from 3:00-6:00 p.m. for a garage sale themed meet.
  • The latest exhibit at Lost Origins Outside, co-created by Exposed alum Philippa Hughes and  Anthony Le, features 13 Vietnamese American artists.
  • Samsung unveiled versatile image sensors to improve smartphone photography.
  • Save the date for the CPC Social on Saturday, July 20 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at our exhibit. Connect with CPC instructors who will share info about the courses they offer to photographers of all levels and get the chance to win a $100 gift certificate from CPC!

Our 18th annual Exposed DC Photography Show is just two weeks away! We can’t wait to celebrate local photography with our amazing community. Get all the details and reserve your spot at the opening reception by snagging your tickets now, and we’ll see you on Friday, July 12 at Fathom Gallery Georgetown!

  • Multiple Exposures Gallery issued a Call for New Members, inviting local photographers interested in gallery membership to apply. They’ll hold two optional information sessions on July 21 and August 16 to provide guidance to prospective applicants.
  • Chris Suspect will be presenting a slideshow and book talk about  “Truly Blessed” at Maryland Meadworks in Hyattsville tomorrow at 7:00 p.m., free. There will be a conversation with Jason Hamacher of Lost Origins Gallery and Bilal Ali, book contributor and photographic subject, about race, sexuality, and faith, and the discrimination that queer African Americans face on all three fronts.
  • On Sunday, the Truly Blessed exhibit closes at Lost Origins Gallery from 3:00-6:00 p.m. with a special live podcast of Stage Craft with legendary DC music producer Don Zientara and Alex Vidales of the band Pilot Waves. Bilal Ali will also speak to the exhibit.
  • Stop by HEMPHILL to see Franz Jantzen’s exhibit before it closes tomorrow.
  • Photojournalists shared about the unsustainability of working for national publications in a recent survey.
  • The free annual #BWPSummit is this weekend and features 18 speakers from around the world.
  • An impressively timed photo of Japanese gymnast Daiki Hashimoto has been crowned the overall winner of the 2024 World Sports Photography Awards.

  • Winners of the BigPicture competition were announced.
  • Nancy Andrews talked with the National Gallery of Art for the 30th anniversary of the publication of her book, “FAMILY: A Portrait of Gay and Lesbian America.”
  • A juried photography contest disqualified one of the images originally picked as a top three finisher in its new AI art category for being taken by a human. Oh, how the tables have turned.
  • Union 206 is hosting a networking event on June 29; tickets are free but limited.
  • Nominees for the Drone Photo Awards have been announced with winners of each category to be announced in September.
  • Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders, who captured one of the most famous photographs taken in outer space, died earlier this month in a plane crash at the age of 90.
  • James Casebere builds miniature models that he captures atop a table in his studio; some of his work addresses the rapidly rising seas that have become a visual synonym for the climate crisis and emphasizes the human impact of a changed planet.

  • Also tomorrow from 5:00-9:00 p.m.: The Community Collective Photography Showcase featuring 35 local photographers at Station 3510.
  • In 1955, two photographers traveled across the United States for a Guggenheim grant; only one became a star.
  • Filmmaker Peter Chelsom unveils his private photography collection in Tuscany, featuring some of the actors he’s worked with over the years along with everyday moments and childhood places from his life.
  • Eric McNatt sued Richard Prince over a portrait he made of Kim Gordon a decade ago resulting in eight years of litigation ending in a judgment with a $450,000 payment.
  • Seems like a good time to remind everyone about the U.S. Copyright Office’s resources for photographers.
  • PortraitMeetDC’s next meet is June 23 at Goodwill Dulles. The event is free but registration is required; reserve your spot now.
  • The Summer 2024 Edition of Truth in Photography launched this week with three curated themes.

  • Head to the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia, tomorrow from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for the opening reception for the “Magnificent Distances” exhibition that features the work of 9 of the 10 DC Street Photo Collective members and street photographer Mike Jett. The exhibit is curated by the 10th member, Tom Woodruff.
  • Critical Exposure is seeking new board members who are passionate about their mission; complete the application by June 17. They are also looking for a Program Manager and Program Coordinators to join their team, with a priority deadline of June 24.
  • The DC/DOX film festival is holding a screening of Rachel Elizabeth Seed’s “A Photographic Memory” at E Street Cinema on June 15 at 12:15 p.m. Use code PHOTO10DOCS at checkout for a discounted rate provided by DC/DOX for the Exposed DC community.
  • Catch two photography exhibits at Studio Gallery during First Friday tonight from 6:00-8:00 p.m. or at the closing reception on June 15 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
  • Winners of the Black Women Photographers x Nikon Grants 2024 were announced this week.
  • Social Documentary Network will host a special one-hour Documentary Matters program with Chester Higgins and Lou Jones on Monday at 7:00 p.m. to celebrate Juneteenth.
  • PortraitMeetDC is hosting a meet up for their subscribers in collaboration with Playhaus and opening a few spots to others, tomorrow from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
