Second Coming (or Overexposed Fireworks) by Kevin Wolf
Second Coming (or Overexposed Fireworks) by Kevin Wolf

I’m in awe of how Kevin Wolf uses light in these two photographs. His fireworks image isn’t solely about the sparkling bursts of lights that are usually depicted in such shots—it focuses instead on the people enjoying the show. And I can’t stop staring at the night sky in his second photo, Star Gazing.

[Update – 9:00pm, July 15 2015: at the request of the photographer, we’ve removed the second photograph.]

2015 DoD Warrior Games by Patrick Onofre
2015 DoD Warrior Games by Patrick Onofre

I saw this photo on Friday and knew that I would choose this for today’s In Frame.  This photograph by Patrick Onofre first caught my eye for beautiful hues, and the instinctive sounds and smells that come with such images. It satisfies my need for geometry and color but holds my attention even beyond that—my visual brain happiness lingers. This swimmer is competing in the 2015 DoD Warrior Games, held for the wounded, ill, and injured Service members and veterans from the U.S. and British armed forces.

I am so excited for the interactive installation at the National Building Museum, The Beach, by the collaborative duo known as Snarkitecture. This is such a fun, enticing photo by @jenburnett.

Instagram user Sean O’Donnell’s images are striking. I love the overexposure and the wonderfully odd perspective of this building by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

Tired by Jordan Barab
Tired by Jordan Barab

This image by Jordan Barab is the perfect illustration of what it feels like to walk through the thick summer in Washington, D.C. Additionally, I think this a symptom of what I like to call “museum fatigue.”
