Chris McDaniel continues his series of high-contrast black and white street photos with this shot of two Ethiopian women wearing traditional shawls. The sheer nature of the clothing’s material results in a broad range of tones, creating a softness absent in many of the other images in the series.

This well framed image from Noe Todorovich transforms an everyday Metro scene into a beautiful photograph. The light is focused exactly where Todorovich wants the viewer to look, and the lines from the railing and the wall all steer the eye towards the subject. The photo makes waiting for a Metro train look serene.

This photograph from regular contributor Chris Suspect is part of a show at Govinda Gallery in Georgetown that’s open until January 4. The show is a collection of images that six different photographers have created while documenting various bands. Tonight there’s a reception for the photographers at Gypsy Sally’s from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. with performances from three of the bands in the exhibition.

Victoria Pickering transformed an everyday scene in L’Enfant Plaza into a frame that could have been pulled from a Hitchcock movie, thanks to the slight movement of the silhouette and positioning of the woman in the frame, and to the excellent composition and drama of the photo.
