2020 Best in Show Winner: Sofía Sebastián

February 14, 2020 By Andie Capace

We can’t wait to celebrate local photography with you all at our 14th Annual Photography Show opening on Wednesday, February 19 from 6-9 p.m. You can grab your discounted tickets in advance here! As the big day approaches, we are excited to announce the final Best in Show winner for this year’s show. Every year we ask a panel of five distinguished, local judges to each select one image to receive a Best in Show award. The winning photographers each receive a $100 cash prize and are acknowledged in the show and exhibition program.

Today, we are announcing the Best in Show winner “Union Station” by Sofía Sebastián, selected by judge Angela Bain. Bain commented, “This image has it all: mood, compelling composition, play of shadows, light and dark, juxtaposition of hard straight lines with gentle curved ones, all while telling a story of DC and some of the interesting people who live and work here at the busiest transportation hub in our dynamic city.”

You can view more of Sebastián’s work on her website and on Instagram.

February 13, 2020 By Andie Capace

We are excited to announce the next Best in Show winner as we approach our 14th Annual Photography Show on Wednesday, February 19 with a reception from 6-9 p.m. Be sure to grab your discounted tickets here before ticket prices go up at the door! Today, we are announcing the next Best in Show winner: “Beauty in the Ordinary” by Iñaki Sánchez, selected by judge Darrow Montgomery. This image appealed to Montgomery due to the “very quiet but beautifully composed” depiction of this ordinary scene. With this image, Sánchez challenges the audience to extract beauty in the mundane, human moments of everyday life.
