Our Flickr pool has seen a predictable spike of late in festive images from local county fairs. While I do love the warm glow of a spinning Ferris wheel at night, the radiating geometry and clever framing of this shot from Victoria Pickering differentiate it from the rest.

Photographer Yonas Hassen found this interesting interplay of light and shadow on the bus. From left to right the light is in a square, a triangle and then another square. If you read the words casting a shadow carefully it reads, “Adams Morgan Golden Triangle.” Another great example to show that it’s always good to have your camera ready.

Chris McDaniel got the perfect silhouette of this guy rocking out on the Vegas strip. Take a cue from both of them: get out of town and go find something weird.

It’s always refreshing to find an experimental shot that features an oft-photographed subject such as the Washington Monument. Wait… and is that the Capitol peeking out from the bottom left corner? Double winner!! Photographer David Abizaid mentions in the description that he was toying with long exposure (1.8 seconds, to be precise) and zoom to achieve this dazzling sci-fi movie-like effect.

Great photographs leave you wanting to know more, and if this photograph does anything, it begs a question or two. We have no idea if this woman is clued into what is happening behind her, but either way it is very interesting. Could these be two homeless men wrestling in the park? Possibly. Could the man in the trash bag be offering free pony rides to any man carrying a sheet of foam? Also possible. Is this the best live reporter camera bomb we’ve seen in a long time? Gosh I hope so.
Aside from the funny content, photographer John Ulaszek does a nice job of framing the image. He shows us enough to set the scene, but not so much that it would give away what is actually happening. While I’m sure that John would be happy to tell us what’s going on in this shot, it’s sometimes better to let the imagination wander.
