Ep_jhu_tpSo many choices! Flickr user ep_jhu shows us that a familiar subject, placed in an unfamiliar way can make for an interesting photograph. This layout at Barmini makes the toilet paper look like part of a carnival game. He also showed great restraint in not unraveling them all, or dropping a large disc on the top and screaming, “Plinko!”

"Stuffed" by JY O'Reilly
“Stuffed” by JY O’Reilly

The use of negative space and the unusual, mundane subject matter are what caught my eye as I scanned the Flickr pool. The way JY O’Reilly has caught the light falling on the piled up trash bags gives them an almost reverential quality.

Onofreshoots_JohnnyJack Nicholson’s The Shining character drawn in chalk is enough to scare the dogs. One is hiding while the other howls, which are the two options for people watching the movie. Great find by Patrick Onofre.

As of today we have almost 1,800 photos in our Exposed DC Flickr pool. Thank you all for being part of our community!

"Girl with bow and arrow" by Patrick Wright
“Girl with bow and arrow” by Patrick Wright

In his description of the circumstances of his lovely street portrait, photographer Patrick Wright writes: “I saw this girl when I was wondering through Capitol Hill and asked her mom if I could take a photo. The girl was shy at first until I asked her to aim an arrow at me.” I think everyone’s grateful that you engaged both mom and daughter.

ChrisSuspect_BirdBenchOne of the things I enjoy most about the images from regular contributor Chris Suspect is the way his photographs make me ask questions that have no answers. For example, “What the…” or “How the…” This image is no exception. Stacked on top of a pretty seaside backdrop, the layers of this photo are bizarre and funny. We can only imagine what was playing out in real life, but the photo is likely much more interesting than the reality.
