Save the date to celebrate the Exposed DC Photography Collection Launch at the DC Public Library on May 24! In case you missed it, we issued a press release with exciting details about the all-day celebration we’re planning to showcase the images of the collection. You can RSVP on Eventbrite and help us spread the word for the big event!

  • Appreciate geometry and still life images created with found objects and monofilament at Studio Gallery on Third Thursdays, April 17 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. or during the closing reception on April 19 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
  • Learn the basics of wildlife photography with the DC Bird Alliance on April 19 from 1:00-2:30 p.m., tickets by donation.
  • This Morning, This Evening, So Soon: James Baldwin and the Voices of Queer Resistance exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery closes on April 20.
  • An underwater camera set up 55 years ago to try photographing the Loch Ness Monster was discovered by a robot submarine and a few images were even developed. No sign of Nessie though.
  • Held in conjunction with the opening of the new Seed Library at Fenwick, the Cross-Pollination exhibit explores the relationship between the earth’s natural elements and the creative process—on view through April 25.
  • Join APA|DC for their monthly photo happy hour on Tuesday, April 15 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Nice & Easy; this event is open to the larger photography and creative community.

Swing by the History Network at the DC History Conference in the lobby of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library this afternoon from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Chat with us about photography in D.C., flip through exhibition magazines from our previous annual shows, and get more details about our launch event for the Exposed DC Photography Collection at the DC Public Library.

  • This Sunday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Seekers Church will host the closing reception for “Rachel Carson: The Sense of Wonder”, a photography exhibit by Keith Kozloff celebrating this local environmental hero, federal worker, and advocate for engaging children with nature.
  • The April Photo Critique at Multiple Exposures Gallery will be Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
  • Skate legends of The DC Wheels will be showing their best for all to photograph as part of the Mt Pleasant Block Party at Lamont Plaza on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Photographers can submit images to Lost Origins for review by a panel of judges, and winners will be announced Monday and will be featured in an exhibit in Spain this coming fall!
  • Hear from three photographers under 30 making a difference on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. on Zoom—part of the 2025 SDN Visual Storytelling Festival.
  • Members of Black Women Photographers are invited to share one photo that tells the visual story of the spaces you occupy via Flickr by April 14 to apply for a grant that includes $5,000 for the recipient to grow their craft, as well as a two-year Flickr Pro membership, and a one-year SmugMug Pro membership.
  • The 15th annual Scottish Nature Photography Awards winners have been announced.

The DC History Conference is April 3-6 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. We’ll be at the History Network on Friday, April 4, in the lobby from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Plan to come through to say hello, flip through old exhibition programs, chat about photography in D.C., and hear about the Exposed DC Collection and upcoming launch event.

  • The DC Shoot Off Photojournalism Workshop is happening now and wrapping up tomorrow night.
  • StreetMeetDC will be at Rosslyn making their way from the metro stop to Gateway Park on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
  • Filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos shares what fuels his uncanny photos as he prepares for his debut photography exhibition.
  • Photoworks Gallery is hosting an artist meet and greet for the “Becoming Ourselves” exhibit tomorrow from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • World Press Photo announced the winners of the 2025 photo contest, showcasing some of the world’s best photojournalism and documentary photography.
  • Dupont Underground invited local photographers to showcase their favorite public spaces in DC as part of the “Common Ground, Common Future: Reimagining the Heart of the District” exhibit, on view through April 13.
  • A photograph of a woman working in a factory in the early 1960s inspired a jewelry maker who turned to social media and factory workers to successfully track her down.

  • View the 60 finalists from the 22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest and vote on your favorite in the Reader’s Choice competition. You might spot an Exposed alum as you go through.
  • Visit Multiple Exposures Gallery to see THE SILENT NARRATOR, a solo exhibition of photographic work by Irina Dakhnovskaia-Lawton.
  • Recipients of the 2025 ZEKE Awards were announced along with honorable mentions.
  • Join Nikon Ambassador, Kristi Odom, and Maryland PPA for an in-person event celebrating wildlife, art, and our planet’s biodiversity on April 26, as part of the MDPPA Annual Convention. Early bird pricing ends April 1 for all convention programs.
  • Register for online portfolio reviews with Social Documentary Network on April 5 from 8:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. ET, $55/review with a max of 12.
  • The Sony World Photography Awards revealed the 10 category winners for its 2025 competition.

  • Join Farrell Parker of Artist Tax Prep today at 11:00 a.m. for an informative presentation exploring some of the forms and factors that individual artists may consider when filing their taxes.
  • StreetMeetDC celebrates 10 years at their meet tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. on U Street.
  • Boom Supersonic and NASA released a photo that captures a U.S. civilian jet breaking the sound barrier in a test flight over the Mojave Desert.
  • For a chance to be featured on Instagram by the DC Street Photography Collective, tag new posts only with #dc_spc_0325 in March. New hashtags are used each month, and photos can be taken anywhere.
  • The winners of the second annual Nature Photography Contest have been announced, and they feature images of a polar bear among vibrant fireweed blooms and a penguin behind the camera.
  • Common Ground, Common Future: Reimagining the Heart of the District is on view at Dupont Underground through April 13.
  • Nick Brandt’s latest series marks the fourth chapter in an ongoing series called “The Day May Break,” which has taken him around the world in search of visual stories illuminating the effects of the climate crisis.
