Did you catch our segment on the latest episode of WETA Arts that premiered Monday night? Enjoy a trip down memory lane as founder Heather Goss talks to host Felicia Curry about the origins of Exposed DC, some favorite images we’ve featured, the community we’ve been building for 17 years, and how to get involved. Even though we still have a good bit of 2022 left, we’re already getting excited about our annual contest opening in December!

  • Join the White House News Photographers Association tomorrow at Lost Origins Gallery for the exhibition opening of “Through the ‘Eyes of History’: Celebrating The White House News Photographers Association 100th Anniversary,” 7-10 p.m.
  • Aperture and Paris Photo announced the shortlist for the 2022 PhotoBook Awards.
  • The Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM is a hefty lens at a hefty price of $13,000.
  • Pete Souza will be at Sixth & I tomorrow night (rescheduled date) sharing images and stories from his years as the Chief Official White House Photographer.
  • Peter Noble invented the solid state active pixel in 1966, a core concept used in digital photography to this day, for which he’s received some credit but not any money.
  • Film photography continues to get more expensive with Fujifilm announcing an increase in prices for many photo papers, films, chemicals, and more.
  • Robert Irwin released a new book full of wildlife and nature photos that showcase Australia with all profits going to wildlife conservation.
  • Ben Thouard’s otherworldly image of a surfer battling with the underwater turbulence of a wave won the top spot in the Ocean Photographer of the Year competition.

Pop some popcorn and clear the couches for a watch party, because Exposed DC is on TV! This Monday, October 3, tune into WETA PBS for this month’s episode of WETA Arts featuring Heather Goss, founder of Exposed DC. She talks with host Felicia Curry about “this visual celebration of the city”—including some of the best images we’ve featured—and the community we’ve been building together for 17 years.

The episode airs at 8:30 p.m. on WETA Metro and 9:30 p.m. on WETA PBS, and at the same times on October 24. It will also be available for streaming on the free PBS Video App and on weta.org starting October 4.

  • Photoworks is hosting a film camera day tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with free camera assessments, film cameras you can borrow or buy, and tutorials provided.
  • The James Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope both documented NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), marking the first time both telescopes simultaneously observed the same celestial target.
  • Exposed alum Chris Suspect will be talking with writer and musician Alec MacKaye at the Mt Pleasant Neighborhood Library on Thursday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. about his punk rock photography and their experiences in the DC/punk and hardcore scenes. After the talk, the DC Punk Archive will exhibit items from its collection.
  • The White House News Photographers Association celebrates their 100th anniversary with the exhibit “Through the Eyes of History” at Lost Origins Gallery. Save the date for the opening reception on October 8 from 7-10 p.m.
  • An exhibition set to open in London celebrates black photography behind and in front of the camera.
  • The Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society encouraged entrants to their annual photography competition to focus on the essence of the UK’s connection with the sea.
  • Dave Caulkin, the Associated Press photographer who captured the iconic moment when ice dancers won the 1984 Olympic gold medal, has died at 77 years old.
