Meeting at the White House by Shamila Chaudhary
Meeting at the White House by Shamila Chaudhary

I love this image—plain and simple. Photographer, Shamila Chaudhary, captures a charming and jovial moment of her daughter being quintessentially childlike in a formal space. Not only is this image wonderfully composed and demonstrates a good photographer’s foresight, it warms my heart. When I showed this image to my mother, she made a delightful observation, comparing the body language of the woman in Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World to the girl’s lean and air-swept air.

Shamila is one of twelve local photographers whose work will be on exhibit at the Crystal City Underground photo walk starting in early October. While this particular image is not one that will be in that show, it is an example of her series, which feature dreamlike images of her daughter growing up. Keep your eyes peeled for more on the show soon, including details of the opening reception.

My eye was drawn to this photo from Xiaoxiao Peng by the combination of menacing, diagonal tree branch shadows and the perfectly level horizon of the wall, mixed with the rather incongruous figure of the adorably dressed child.

Because art can be exhausting. Or perhaps more interesting when viewed upside down. Nicely captured and framed by Melodious.

What do I do here dad? by Jim Havard
What do I do here dad? by Jim Havard

Let’s continue In Frame’s impromptu theme of the week with this adorable shot from Jim Havard. The look of bewilderment on the girl’s face is priceless and wholly appropriate, given the daunting array of neon signage confronting her.

I see you by John Marciano
I see you by John Marciano

We don’t see too many kid shots in our Flickr pool, but John Marciano has obliged with this pink-hued portrait of a girl providing our photographer with a perfectly priceless expression.
