Mimi d’Autremont takes a moment to stop in the middle of a cacophonous scene—the audience is seemingly unaware of her presence. Except one. Mimi meets the stare of a beautiful young woman as she poses amidst the sea of people. The stillness of the woman and the motion of the crowd allows the photograph to direct the viewer’s glance exactly where it needs to be.

The simple beauty of the lonely, partially submerged bench is what drew me to this image by Richard Brundage. It’s also a perfect example of the use of the rule of thirds.

It’s another grey day and this photo reminds me that a lot of negative space pointing to a building will wake me up.

Wow. This is the best image I saw from the lunar spectacular—it’s a beautiful photograph. Photographer, Kaitlin Jencso, uses the whole frame to create a solemn moment. It’s more than just the moon. No, it’s not the actual eclipse but it captures essence of the gatherings I’ve seen on social media—people waiting for a rare event.

This is one of my favorite images I’ve chosen for In Frame. It’s wonderfully composed and complex. Photographer Beau Finley uses the environment to play off a billboard with the image of a desert. As the viewer we’re not completely in the desert landscape, but almost.
