This flattened, green landscape of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina unites the lush forest with the minimal grassy area in the lower right of Mimi d’Autremont‘s image. Part of a white, geometric fence at the bottom of the verdant frame adds a subtle element of design, delicately holding my focus.

@chvrches and long exposures: how nmpj students fill spare time at #landmarkmusicfestival #exposeddc #FotoDC

A photo posted by Mimi d'Autremont (@mimidaut) on Sep 30, 2015 at 7:03pm PDT

Mimi d’Autremont takes a moment to stop in the middle of a cacophonous scene—the audience is seemingly unaware of her presence. Except one. Mimi meets the stare of a beautiful young woman as she poses amidst the sea of people. The stillness of the woman and the motion of the crowd allows the photograph to direct the viewer’s glance exactly where it needs to be.
