The Renwick Gallery (the original Corcoran Gallery of Art) opened this weekend with the exhibition, Wonder. It’s a beautiful and immersive show with wall signage that specifically encourages photography. I love this image. Not only did photographer Zach Kalman find an interesting scene he used the repetition of color and pattern to frame a more captivating picture. The red car, aqua car, red lights, aqua steps, and red car all keep my eyes bouncing around within the photograph.

On most days the first thing I think is, “Can I sleep more?” and the second thing I think about is coffee. Flickr user Eric P. has a clever eye and captures the third thing I think, “How long must I wait to have more coffee without feeling jittery?”

For me architecture and nature are synonymous—the environment around buildings is intrinsically important to the space structures are built on. But recently, I’ve had this profound attraction towards landscape photography. John Marciano’s image of Great Falls captures the allure and emotion that draws me increasingly closer to nature. The scenes are not constructed by humans and it’s our job to find the beauty and framing for each image, whereas architectural spaces are environments created by an architect’s vision, which pushes us to see a place in a certain way.
