  • The Paris Olympics have already given us a ton of terrific imagery, but the award for most viral photo thus far has to go to a stunning shot of a surfer taken in Tahiti.
  • Exposed alum Alain Gutiérrez is organizing a trip to Cuba for six photographers in November, $3,700/person, not including airfare, visa fee, or incidentals.
  • DC History Center and Off the Mall Tours are collaborating on a “District of Punk” downtown walking tour on August 14 at 5:30 p.m., $30 ($25 for members).
  • 14 VISIONS, a fine art photography exhibition juried by Allison Nance, opened at Multiple Exposures Gallery this week and is on view daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through August 25.
  • View the winning images of the 18th annual Washington Gardener Photo Contest at an art show opening Sunday from 2:00-3:30 p.m.. at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens.
  • RSVP to join Annie Levy on Zoom as she hosts Smith Center’s “Conversations in Photography” on August 21 at 10:30 a.m. The workshop will focus on the joy of discovering who we are and envisioning who we want to become through the lens of our most important photos.
  • StreetMeet is looking for community builders who want to make a positive impact in their city — here in D.C. and beyond.

Join us tonight from 5-8 p.m. at Fathom Gallery Georgetown for the closing of our annual photography show. It’s your last chance to view the exhibition; come on the earlier side if you haven’t seen the show yet. We’ll have exhibition programs for sale along with the beautiful, framed exhibit photographs that we promise will look great on your wall, too.   • See powerful portraits by one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century in Gordon Parks’ exhibition at the National Gallery of Art, featuring 25 portraits he made between 1941 and 1970 mostly from the Corcoran Collection.
  • Head to Freedom Plaza tomorrow at 5 p.m. for this month’s StreetMeetDC get together.
  • Robert Miller has been promoted to Director of Photography at The Washington Post.

  • The PROGRESSION fine art photography exhibition at Multiple Exposures Gallery is also closing on Sunday.
  • Long before artificial intelligence, photographers altered images to burnish the reputations of politicians—from Lincoln to Stalin.
  • An exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art focuses on the first century of advertising photography in the United States and Europe, capturing the evolution of photographic depiction over time.
  • Join Capital Photography Center on August 4 at the Renwick Gallery to learn creative photo techniques using perspective, depth of field, focus, and subject isolation while exploring various styles of art.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception of the 2024 Exposed DC Photography Show! In case you missed it, there’s a recap on our website with some photos of the evening, documented by Mariah Miranda. If you’d like to provide feedback on the opening, you can complete this brief survey. The exhibit is open today at Fathom Gallery Georgetown from 5-8 p.m. and the rest of the weekend from noon to 5 p.m. Come by and say hello! The show closes next Friday, July 26.

  • Join us tomorrow from 2:30-5:00 p.m. at our exhibition for the CPC Social where you can meet Capital Photography Center (CPC) instructors, find out about classes available, and even win a $100 CPC gift certificate.
  • One of our Best in Show judges has an exhibition opening next week. Jada Imani M’s INFINITY & Beyond, curated by Khaleelah I. L. Harris, will open on Thursday, July 25 at Arena Social DC with a reception from 7-10 p.m.! Registration is free here.
  • A new exhibition at the National Building Museum reimagines the city’s sometimes loved, often hated brutalist concrete giants. Admission is $10; $7 for seniors, students, and kids; free for members and children under 3.
  • Multiple Exposures Gallery is holding a membership information session on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. as they anticipate two openings for membership later this year.
  • A team of imaging experts, scientists and historians set sail for the Titanic last week to gather the most detailed photographic record ever made of the wreck.
  • An architectural photographer and an architect collaborated for two years on a project that pairs every European Car of the Year of the past 60 years with a building of the same vintage.

Just one week until we open the 2024 Exposed DC Photography Show at Fathom Gallery Georgetown. We can’t wait to celebrate local photography with you all. Get your tickets now, and we’ll see you on Friday, July 12!

  • Do you want your very own wet plate portrait? 2024 exhibiting photographer Mac Cosgrove-Davies will be making them at Fathom Gallery Georgetown on Sunday, July 14 in conjunction with our gallery hours. Each session is 15 minutes long and costs $110 to cover materials; registration recommended as spots are limited.
  • PROGRESSION, a new fine art photography exhibition at Multiple Exposures Gallery through July 28, features a sequence of photographs with each one chosen for its relation to the previous image.
  • This week, the Washington Post introduced thew new Post Local newsletter covering everything happening in the D.C. area. Photos of the region can be shared via this form.
  • PortraitMeetDC will be at Dock 5 tomorrow from 3:00-6:00 p.m. for a garage sale themed meet.
  • The latest exhibit at Lost Origins Outside, co-created by Exposed alum Philippa Hughes and  Anthony Le, features 13 Vietnamese American artists.
  • Samsung unveiled versatile image sensors to improve smartphone photography.
  • Save the date for the CPC Social on Saturday, July 20 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at our exhibit. Connect with CPC instructors who will share info about the courses they offer to photographers of all levels and get the chance to win a $100 gift certificate from CPC!

Our 18th annual Exposed DC Photography Show is just two weeks away! We can’t wait to celebrate local photography with our amazing community. Get all the details and reserve your spot at the opening reception by snagging your tickets now, and we’ll see you on Friday, July 12 at Fathom Gallery Georgetown!

  • Multiple Exposures Gallery issued a Call for New Members, inviting local photographers interested in gallery membership to apply. They’ll hold two optional information sessions on July 21 and August 16 to provide guidance to prospective applicants.
  • Chris Suspect will be presenting a slideshow and book talk about  “Truly Blessed” at Maryland Meadworks in Hyattsville tomorrow at 7:00 p.m., free. There will be a conversation with Jason Hamacher of Lost Origins Gallery and Bilal Ali, book contributor and photographic subject, about race, sexuality, and faith, and the discrimination that queer African Americans face on all three fronts.
  • On Sunday, the Truly Blessed exhibit closes at Lost Origins Gallery from 3:00-6:00 p.m. with a special live podcast of Stage Craft with legendary DC music producer Don Zientara and Alex Vidales of the band Pilot Waves. Bilal Ali will also speak to the exhibit.
  • Stop by HEMPHILL to see Franz Jantzen’s exhibit before it closes tomorrow.
  • Photojournalists shared about the unsustainability of working for national publications in a recent survey.
  • The free annual #BWPSummit is this weekend and features 18 speakers from around the world.
  • An impressively timed photo of Japanese gymnast Daiki Hashimoto has been crowned the overall winner of the 2024 World Sports Photography Awards.
