This Friday May 8, WWII planes are flying over the National Mall. To enjoy the sky parade, Exposed DC is hosting an event around the Jefferson Memorial. Photographing airplanes flying in the sky can be complicated—timing is everything. To help anyone bringing their camera down to the Mall, I asked aviation photography expert, Chris Williams, who also taught our Knowledge Commons class at Gravelly Point last fall, a few questions about his craft and to share a few tips about capturing great aeronautical images.

I am working on breaking out of my comfort zone as a curator and pushing my eyes to new vistas. This week we have everything from dog ears, a field of flowers, and shadow neck tattoos to holes in the ceiling, shoes in the crosswalk, and beer on a picnic table. Please continue to tag your photos #exposeddc or #instantdc and if something catches my eye you might just end up here next week. Enjoy. – J. Campbell.

We’re switching up our Instagram feature this week – instead of showcasing a series of shots from one photographer, we’re highlighting some individual favorites that have been tagged #exposeddc or #instantdc this week by several different Instagrammers. Enjoy!

This week’s featured local Instagrammer is septembersneary – @septembersneary.
Septembersneary describes herself as an architect and mod for the @bridges_of_dc Instagram account. We really like the architecturally-oriented focus in her photographs. Enjoy our favorites below.
If you’d like your Instagram photos to be considered for this weekly InstantDC-curated feature, please tag them #exposeddc or #instantdc. Show us what you’ve got!
