• Focus on the Story is accepting proposals to present at the 2019 festival. If you have an exceptional photography project or an idea for a talk that will inspire and engage fellow photographers, submit it for the chance to join the stellar lineup and get complimentary registration to the festival, three nights of hotel accommodations, and a travel voucher of up to $500.
• Join Exposed alum Amanda Archibald tomorrow for a Fancy Camera Basics workshop to learn about composing the frame beautifully, choosing the appropriate settings for your camera, understanding how exposures are made, and much more, 10 a.m., $75.

• Winners of the British Photography Awards were announced earlier this week.
• Join the AU School of Public Affairs’ Justice Programs Office on February 6 for an event centered around Richard Ross’ new photography exhibit focused on youth in the juvenile justice system, 5:30-8:15 p.m.
• Javier Riera infuses landscapes with geometric shapes through light installations that he then photographs. The results are surreal and beautiful.

• The Capitol Hill Art League and Hill Center Galleries are co-sponsoring a show focusing on the beauty of all trees and are accepting entries through February 1.
• Place and displacement intertwine the series House to House and Suburbs by Pat Howard and Andy Currie in the latest exhibit at Photoworks, opening next week with a reception and gallery talk on Saturday, Jan. 26, 5-7 p.m.
• Framebridge is opening a new location on 14th Street. 
• A Philadelphia-based photographer created a time-lapse video using video and photos taken by astronauts onboard the International Space Station.
• The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is exploring Ansel Adams in a new light with an exhibit of over 100 of his photographs as well as images by 23 contemporary photographers whose work helps show how things have continued to change and reinterprets well-known scenes.

• Have great photos of gardens in or around D.C.? The 13th Annual Washington Gardener Magazine Photo Contest is accepting entries through January 22.
• The newly-opened Lumen Museum sits amidst the Dolomites, designed to showcase mountain photography amidst mountains themselves.
• The Flickering Treasures exhibit on view at the National Building Museum showcases the history of the movie-going experience in Baltimore over the years.
• British naturalist Anna Atkins was the first to use photography for scientific illustration in her magnum opus, British Algae. Some of her research and work is featured in an exhibition at the New York Public Library.
• A rare book dealer has spent the last 30 years acquiring pictures of China at the dawn of photography, from albumen prints to wet plates.
