“L1008726” by John Ulaszek

This gritty and pretty picture from John Ulaszek caught my eye for a couple of reasons: the incongruity of the pepto-pink car body and the filthy hands pressing down on it; and the initially confusing postures of the two people, making them look like some sort of other-worldly creature. This was taken at a local demolition derby, an event we will definitely be adding to the Exposed DC calendar as a tasty photo op.

Meanwhile, the Exposed DC Flickr pool reached another big milestone yesterday as the thousandth image was added by Joe Flood. Thanks to Joe and to all our contributing photographers for sharing your work with us.

“Lounging in the air” by Victoria Pickering

Our Flickr pool has seen a predictable spike of late in festive images from local county fairs. While I do love the warm glow of a spinning Ferris wheel at night, the radiating geometry and clever framing of this shot from Victoria Pickering differentiate it from the rest.

"Runaway Monument" by David Abizaid
“Runaway Monument” by David Abizaid

It’s always refreshing to find an experimental shot that features an oft-photographed subject such as the Washington Monument. Wait… and is that the Capitol peeking out from the bottom left corner? Double winner!! Photographer David Abizaid mentions in the description that he was toying with long exposure (1.8 seconds, to be precise) and zoom to achieve this dazzling sci-fi movie-like effect.

"The Wedding Reception" by Robb Hohmann
“The Wedding Reception” by Robb Hohmann

Shooting weddings can be a lot of fun, particularly when you’re not the official wedding photographer. It seems likely that Robb Hohman was playing the role of guest when he snapped this vibrant candid shot of two fellow revelers engaging in the usual kinds of reception shenanigans. This pricelessly evocative image was captured on film using a Voigtlander Bessa-R3A rangefinder.

“Chinatown, DC” by Veeresh

Are you ready to be polled, D.C. photographers? It’s not as painful as it sounds, honest.

We want to know what camera you tote around with you every day. Do you stick to your iPhone camera? Lug around your DSLR at all times? Maybe you prefer a Diana for some artsy street shots during your commute? Take our poll below, and then tell us in the comments what you use for every day photography and why – we want to hear from you!
