Driving to Work 20 by Jordan Barab
Driving to Work 20 by Jordan Barab

There’s so much to like in this deliciously messy shot by Jordan Barab—the deluge of rectangular lines broken up by the fire escape and the hand truck; the strong textures of the painted brickwork; the saturated rust-brown color theme accented by the red coat. And if you’re tired of summer already, it’s nice to look at a photo taken in January.

Rodeo by Pablo Benavente
Rodeo by Pablo Benavente

You may be as surprised as I was to learn that photographing a rodeo could be done within an hour’s drive from downtown D.C.! Pablo Benavente made this perfectly timed and well-lit capture at the Loudon County Fair in Leesburg, Virginia.

Portrait of Alex Franka by Robb Hohmann

It’s been a while since we featured a straight-up portrait, so when this nicely lit, light-hearted shot from Robb Hohmann showed up in the pool, it was a shoo-in for today’s selection.

Untitled by Xiaoxiao Peng
Untitled by Xiaoxiao Peng

My eye was drawn to this photo from Xiaoxiao Peng by the combination of menacing, diagonal tree branch shadows and the perfectly level horizon of the wall, mixed with the rather incongruous figure of the adorably dressed child.

Double Rainbow at the National Cathedral by Shaun Schroth
Double Rainbow at the National Cathedral by Shaun Schroth

Many of you shared images of the stunning double rainbow that appeared after last night’s big storm rolled through. This beautifully framed shot from Shaun Schroth was the pick of the bunch.
