Did you join us for the opening of the 16th annual Exposed DC Photography Show? We’d love to get your feedback in this brief survey. We also received the full set of images from the day that was beautifully captured by Mariah Miranda, and you can view our album on Facebook. The exhibition will be on view at Lost Origins Outside and in our virtual gallery through July 24.

  • The American Photographic Artists – DC Chapter is hosting two free virtual events this month as part of Focus on the Story 2022: a session on financial planning advice (June 14 at 11 a.m.) and a Pride month exclusive conversation with photographer Amy Scott, founder of Queer the Lens (June 22 at noon).
  • The Library of Congress pared down their extensive photography collection from 15 million to 3,000 to 440 images for their recent exhibit, “Not an Ostrich: And Other Images from America’s Library.”
  • Canon’s new EOS R7 is already on backorder, shortly after being announced.
  • Cheriss May (one of our awesome Best in Show judges) is leading a two-day portrait photography workshop with Leica Akademie on June 25 and 26, $899.99.
  • A wildlife photographer captured two bald eagles locking talons in the sky.
  • Join StreetMeetDC outside the Takoma Metro Station tomorrow at 5 p.m. for their second weekend of Summer of StreetMeet.
  • Thierry Ardouin unveils the stunning diversity of plants through macro photography of seeds.
  • The Photographers’ Gallery transformed a collection of little-used streets and alleyways in London into a new permanent art gallery.
  • A new exhibition delves into Magnum photographers’ assignments done on commission.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at the opening of our annual photography show at Lost Origins Outside last weekend! If you missed it, we shared an opening reception recap with some photos from the event, information about the exhibition, and a brief survey for attendees who’d like to provide feedback on the event. You can also view our virtual gallery and listen to some of the photographers talk about their images in the show. Our #2022XDC Instagram giveaway runs through June 30, so you still have time to check out the exhibition and participate. Our team is so grateful to everyone who helped make this show possible and to everyone who’s taking the time to come and see it!

  • Focus on the Story has a full day of events lined up for tomorrow, including the festival kick-off party where the 2022 Exposed DC Photography Show will be projected, 7-9 p.m., free. Register and show your ticket for two free drink coupons. And be sure to check the full calendar for events all through the month!
  • Photoworks is hosting an in-person reception tomorrow for their exhibit featuring the winners of Photo Slam 2021: Shelby Swann and Kristian Whipple, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
  • And be sure to save the date for Photo Slam 2022 on June 26 at metrobar and submit your own images by June 20 to participate and vie for an exhibition at Photoworks Gallery in 2023.
  • Head to metrobar this Sunday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for the opening of “A Long Way Down: The Grandeur, Grit and Humanity of the DC Metro,” an exhibit featuring local photographers who captured great images of the ubiquitous DC Metro system. We spy several Exposed alum in the list of featured photographers; congrats, all!
  • German film manufacturer Orwo is launching a new ISO 500 color film based on Agfa film stock used in the movie “Out of Africa.”
  • Summer of StreetMeet kicks off tomorrow in Rosslyn, with meet-ups happening every Saturday in June at various locations.
  • Join Erica Robinson and Jamie Rose for a golden hour photo walk with Tamron & Wildfire tonight, 6:00 p.m., free, with lenses available to borrow during the walk.
  • Getty Images announced a $40,000 creative grant to encourage authentic representation of disability communities.
  • Mac Cosgrove-Davies is offering two hands-on, one-week camps at Photoworks for teens (age 13-18): “Handmade Photography – Camera to Final Print” and “Exploring the Cyanotype” in late June and early July, $200/camp.

#2022XDC Giveaway Info

From day one, Exposed DC has been about celebrating local photography. Our annual show is curated from a contest to reflect the city we live in today. We’d love to see and hear about how these photos resonate with you. As such, we’re excited to have a few prizes to give away in conjunction with our show and with thanks to our sponsors!

We invite you to share your own images taken at this year’s show for the chance to win a $100 gift certificate for Capital Photography Center or a SpyderX Pro monitor calibrator (valued at $169.99). Share your image with the #2022XDC hashtag and be sure to tag @exposed_dc and @capitalphotographycenter on Instagram to participate. Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. EST on June 30, 2022. Winners will be notified via DM before announcements are made on Instagram.

The 2022 Exposed DC Photography Show opens at Lost Origins Outside in the alley next to Ellē in Mount Pleasant on Sunday, May 29. Join us for an opening celebration from 3-6 p.m. The exhibition will be on view through Sunday, July 24.

Terms & Conditions

The contest is open to residents of Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland who are 18 years of age or older, excluding anyone from the Exposed DC team, their families, or anyone professionally connected with the organizations participating.

To enter, share an image you capture while checking out the outdoor exhibition using the hashtag #2022XDC and tagging @exposed_dc and @capitalphotographycenter in the caption. Please note that only posts will be eligible, not stories. Entries will be accepted through June 30, and winners will be notified soon thereafter.

Two prizes will be awarded to two winners: one $100 gift certificate for Capital Photography Center and one SpyderX Pro monitor calibrator (valued at $169.99).

Exposed DC and Capital Photography Center may post contest entries on their Instagram accounts and websites with photo credit provided. No rights are transferred by participating.

Save the date for the opening of our 16th annual Exposed DC Photography Show at Lost Origins Outside on Sunday, May 29! We can’t wait to see everyone and celebrate another year of great local photography with you all. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks, including the announcement of our Best in Show awards selected by this year’s special judges, distinguished photographers and photojournalists based in Washington, D.C.

  • Speaking of the Best in Show judges, head to Leica Store DC tonight for the opening reception of Cheriss May’s “Soul Connection” project, 7:00-9:00 p.m., free.
  • Registration is now open for Chris Suspect’s Day of the Dead workshop in Oaxaca, Mexico with early bird pricing available through July 15.
  • Join Photoworks for their annual Fundraiser Gala on May 19. Tickets are $150 (regular) / $50 (under age 30) and include admission for two people and one image from the print raffle. You may recognize some images from Exposed DC folks and regularly featured photographers.
  • The 1882 Foundation, Asian American Journalists Association, and DC Public Library are hosting a pre-premiere screening of Curtis Chin’s short documentary “Dear Corky,” on the “undisputed, unofficial Asian American photographic laureate” Corky Lee, May 10 at 6:30 p.m.
  • A federal judge granted summary judgment to Pinterest in a lawsuit by a photographer claiming the company infringed over 50 of his copyrighted works by displaying them too close to other advertisements.
  • 39 photographers were announced as winners, jurors’ picks, and finalists of the LensCulture Portrait Awards 2022.
  • Photographer Igor Posner describes his new book “Cargó” as “an exploration of the psyche of migration.”

16th Annual Exposed DC Photography Show Returns to Mount Pleasant

– Opening celebration: Sunday, May 29 from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
– Best in Show awards chosen by five distinguished local photographers
– Full-color exhibition magazine featuring all winning images available for purchase


Exposed DC is excited to partner with Lost Origins Gallery to present the 16th annual Exposed DC Photography Show in an outdoor installation in Mount Pleasant opening on May 29. The show features 38 images that were taken by local photographers and selected from a contest for their unique perspective of the D.C. metro area. The exhibition will be on view at Lost Origins Outside located along the exterior wall of Ellē restaurant at 3221 Mt Pleasant St NW through July 24.

Join us for a special celebration of local photography as we open the show on Sunday, May 29 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. View all the winning images together, chat with featured photographers and the Exposed DC team, and purchase an exhibition program or even a framed print of one of the images in the show. 

Five of the photographs will receive a Best in Show award along with a $100 cash prize. These awards are selected by independent judges who are acclaimed photographers in the D.C. community. This year, we’re thrilled to have Dee Dwyer, Andrew Harnik, Kenny Holston, Cheriss May, and Michael McCoy selecting these special awards. Get to know the judges now and stay tuned to find out which photos they selected in the days leading up to the show opening.

Since 2006, Exposed DC has been celebrating life and culture in the Washington, D.C. area through the perspectives of photographers who live, work, play, and love here. Our annual photography show shines a spotlight on life in the D.C. metro area as seen through the lenses of some of the region’s most passionate amateur photographers and professionals alike.
