for the love of DC photography
I was sitting with my mother trying to decide which photo to select for today’s In Frame. She immediately saw this photo by Victoria Pickering and said, “I just love the color!” My mother was right—the vibrant primary colors really pop on a bright white background.
I see a lot of typical post-card images of Washington D.C.—many are slight variations of the same shot. But, this image photographed by, Larry Greene is perhaps my favorite picture I’ve seen of the Washington Monument. The image is taken through the columns of the Lincoln Memorial in a dark corner of the structure. It’s so unique and uses the golden light from the setting sun to create a warm, yet mysterious scene. His framing of the monument is nearly perfect.
L’Hermione is recreating her voyage from 1780. This image by Flickr user Biketripper captures the ship departing Alexandria, sailing under the open drawbridge of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, on her way to Annapolis.
When I first saw this photo by Noe Todorovich I thought, “Yes!” This is such great use geometry and pattern.
The angle in which Victoria Pickering photographed this scene is magnificently puzzling, and documents the installation of Living Time Line: Paul Robeson last Saturday on a U St. alleyway in D.C. Muralist Cory L Stowers received a commission from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities to create this work, which depicts the life of Paul Robeson. Pickering notes that the mural “contains an image recognition technology which triggers access to rich content, and is the first use of this technology for an outdoor mural.”
