Sheep on the Mall by Bill Coyle
Sheep on the Mall by Bill Coyle

I’m trying to find the words to describe how much I enjoy this image by Bill Coyle. The foggy, quiet backdrop of the Basque country with grazing sheep is very different than the energetic chaos of the Folklife Festival on the National Mall. The moment of the girl eating her ice cream while the boy waits impatiently provides a hint of what is behind the artificial severity of the printed picture.

L’Hermione is recreating her voyage from 1780. This image by Flickr user Biketripper captures the ship departing Alexandria, sailing under the open drawbridge of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, on her way to Annapolis.

GW Birthday Parade in Alexandria by Bill Coyle
GW Birthday Parade in Alexandria by Bill Coyle

OMG…revolutionaries have taken to the streets of Northern Virginia causing the Governor to declare martial law!!! Ok, maybe not. Nothing to see here, except a beautifully framed shot of reenactors from the George Washington Birthday Parade by photographer Bill Coyle.

Oh sure, we just picked one of Bill’s great catches on Wednesday, but I couldn’t resist this wonderful shot of Nats Park (click on the image to see how great it looks embiggened!) It’s been perfect weather to catch a game — and lucky Bill, he attended on the only night the Nats beat the Mets last week, in a sudden upset in the bottom of the eighth inning. Go watch them play the Phillies this weekend, and see if you can get as nice a shot as this one.

"Rev. Al and producer face off." by Bill Coyle
“Rev. Al and producer face off.” by Bill

It’s hard to tell exactly what’s going between the Reverend Al Sharpton and someone who appears to be a television producer. But whatever it is, the moment has been captured perfectly. Well done Bill.
