It’s officially Summer. This photo by Chris Suspect reminds me of the endless summer shenanigans of youth. The ones that are filled with spontaneous decisions we might not have made sober but the ones that became fun anecdotes we reminisce about with friends. The moment in which the person is captured is frozen is an odd and interesting motion that keeps me focused in the frame.

I’ve spent a solid amount of time studying this photo trying to glean information from every vignette. Kevin Wolf’s omniscient presence shows the tiny little worlds inside a moment in time at a very specific place.

The heat has been unbearable lately. There have been too many long days indoors glancing out the window dreaming of the air cooling off. I also often dream of being in the ocean, like in this photo by Jaime Harris, and feeling the cold water against my skin. This image taken while the photographer was submerged in the ocean gives me the sensation that I am almost there.

Joy Sharon Yi shares an image from her ongoing project about children living in public housing in Ward 8 neighborhood, Barry Farms. This scene excellently depicts the childhood summer nostalgia many of us remember—eating popsicles on hot summer days in parks, attempting to lick the cold sweets fast enough before they drip down our arms.

It was a warm one last weekend, so the crew of a D.C. fire truck provided some relief for Pride festival goers, which Victoria Pickering caught in this perfect summertime image.
