In this image, the photographer John Goucher distorts the scene at Union Station with his Rokinon 8mm f/2 fisheye lens. This type of lens can be extremely useful in taking shots that incorporate even more of the scene than could even be captured with the most extreme wide-angle lens. Aesthetically, the fisheye effect can create some pretty interesting compositions and a means of expanding your creativity. Thanks for sharing, John!
This image by photographer John Young was taken in the village of Bushmills in Northern Ireland. The artist’s manipulation of the image by applying an extensive amount of contrast has resulted in a unique image focusing on the subjects’ silhouettes as opposed to the details of the landscape. This gives the image a painterly feel, with the only form of color coming from the starkly blue umbrella, which works to draw the viewer’s eye. Thanks for showing us your unique perspective, John!
It is not an easy task to capture a crisp photograph of motion. However, in this image, Miki Jourdan has successfully captured the vibrancy of the Soka Tribe, a dance group at this year’s DC Funk Parade. With the summer season approaching and warm weather finally in our grasp, it is a great time to participate in local events happening around the DMV. For example, Olaf Zerbock photographed the Lights of Freedom Ceremony at Walter Pierce Park. Lighting over 2,000 candles, the event honors thousands of African Americans who were buried in what is now Adams Morgan after they gained their freedom during the U.S. Civil War. This photo is contemplative, powerful, and a reminder to get out in our community and participate!
