It won’t be until 2040 that another In Frame will be on February 29. So, I decided to select an image that exemplifies the style of photography I am most fond of. Photographs of architecture and the American vernacular, such as this image by Roy, will continue to fascinate and excite me. The scenes are subtle and ordinary but it’s the craft of the photographers that make them extraordinary.

I was instantly attracted to the tone and framing of this image by Jung Yi—it’s pleasant and calming. The narrative of the scene depicted is simple but engaging.

Photographer, Joy Yi has spent several months documenting Ward 8 in DC. This image is beautifully crafted—Yi demonstrates great vision while on assignment. The movement of this girls playing their violins inside lockers feels more like a film clip than a still photograph.

A perfect combination of colors, straight and diagonal lines, and the all-important thirds in this pretty, wintry scene off Dupont Circle by Jenn W.

There is a lot of yes happening in this image by Colin Gilpin. It’s photographs like these that really make my brain smile—what great framing. I have one question though: Is the shadow behind the man with the apron from another person?
